If only our computers had an “organize” button! They don’t, yet…so here are a few practical tips!

Here are a few tips I am learning, not only for starting out my week in an organized manner, but keeping it organized.

  1. I set out my clothes the night before, (but only after checking the weather for the next day.) I know a few people who set out their clothes on Sunday evening for the week ahead but the weather here changes on a whim so 12/24 hours before I know more accurately.
  2. Plan your meals for the week. If meal prep is not your thing you can even just get meals written on a calendar for the week ahead. Fill in days you will be eating out or eating at a work thing etc.
  3. Have set times during the day to return emails and phone calls. Your time is precious and having 2 or three set times a day to get back to people will make a better use of your time.
  4. Choose one area of your home to clean daily. This shouldn’t take more than 10-20 minutes. When broken down it is easier than all in one day.
  5. Find a time daily to have “you time.” Read, meditate, move, sing, sip tea. This keeps us in balance and moving forward and feeling filled up.

Keys to Productivity

If you are like me you want to be productive, but some days you don’t know how, or you don’t feel good, or you don’t know what to do first.

Enter plans and goals! I know living by the book day in a day out is exhausting, but for me, I have to have tracks to run on. If a plan is in place to get through each day, week, and month, I know that I will be achieving goals left and right and seeing and feeling progress.

I have had some unexpected health changes occur over the past few months and a lot of days I simply don’t feel good. I know that I do my best work in the mornings and I LOVE sitting down to lunch knowing every important task has been marked off my list and anything after is a bonus.

For the past 2 plus weeks, I have been off from my nannying job and my goal is by June to make this my lifestyle. It has been a SMASHING success. I get up at 5:30 every morning (When I am Nannying it is 5) I do my Miracle Morning which consists of about an hour of reading a personal growth book (I am finishing Failing Forward by John Maxwell currently) envisioning my future, reading affirmations out loud, writing some down, writing in my gratitude journal, and meditating or praying. Then I eat breakfast and begin my day. Each day is different as some days I do yoga first thing or other days I walk later in the day or do an exercise video but I focus on exercising daily. I have been spending the mornings working on my businesses. These tasks include writing blog posts, making calls, coffee appointments etc. I have a daily cleaning task I like to accomplish and there is always laundry.

It seems simple really, but it’s fulfilling, income producing and dare I say FUN!

 

Some tips I have are to 1) Decide what time of day you work best. For some, it means working around your job but are you a morning person or a night owl. I know some moms thrive on the quiet time in the evening to get work down when the kids are in bed. Others work better getting up early. Find what works for you. 2) Write a list of daily, weekly, monthly tasks and arrange them on a schedule. I recommend having one day where things are planned loosely. For me that is Sunday. I know what needs to get done before the end of the day Sunday, but I give myself some grace as to when during the day I do it. 3) Implement your schedule one task at a time if you have to. I have created some great goal sheets to help you do this. Comment below to get your copy.

4) Always be open to changing things around if what you have been doing is no longer working. If 4 am is too early try 4:30 or 5 am. If Tuesday is not turning out to be a good day to do laundry than change it!

Saying good-bye to clutter

Clutter can be in any part of our lives. Our car, our home, our friendships, our business, but the most common is our home or living space. I have observed though, that clutter in a physical space is only a mask for what is going on internally.

Stress, depression, loss, loneliness, a break up, abuse and many more things can lead to clutter. But as I always say -how you do one thing is how you do everything! That is GREAT news though. If you start, whether you begin by working on the internal or external clutter, it will pour over and begin to change in other areas!

Love this clutter mantra! It has use not just for material things but relationships or thoughts that clutter our thinking even 🙂

Being Efficient with Your Time

I have a lot of clients come to me with an empty calendar simply because they don’t know where to put everything. Whether you are using a daily planner or your phone or computer as your calendar it doesn’t matter just use something!

As my favorite saying goes “How do you eat an elephant?” One bite at a time….so lets break it down….

Write down everything that needs to be scheduled first.

What do you want to schedule first?

Is it health, family time, business time, social time?

Then start going down your list and transferring it to your schedule. The most important things first. Have a time each day or certain days a week for certain things

It doesn’t stop there though, you need to stick with putting things on your calendar as they come your way. Don’t put it off until later or tell yourself you will remember!

My Morning Routine

I am a FIRM believer in personal growth. During the first year in my MLM business I read maybe 3 or 4 personal growth books…this year I have read 14 and the year isnt even over and I can say my own personal growth and the growth of my business has been expedential….a coincidence I dont think so. Long story short I encourage everyone to read or listen if that is more your style. (If you want some book suggestions let me know)

Meditation or prayer is another part of my morning. Not everyone is comfortable with acknowledging a higher power and that is ok but find a way to be quiet with your thoughts and have some silent time.

Affirmations are good for our subsidence mind and making things happen. An example of one is “Everything works out well for me.”

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. Keep a gratitude journal DAILY!

Create a vision board that has photos of what you are working towards in life- prosperity, vacations, health, abundance etc. Get specific and take time to look at your board daily and envision what is coming your way.

How You Do One Thing Is How You Do Everything

A theme with my clients has been finding a how and where to put ones energy and how to commit to finding a way to have self-discipline in tasks and accomplishing goals. Alot of times we know exactly what to do but the road between us and accomplishing the goal seems so long and hard.

It starts with the small tasks. If you want to organize your home or fully schedule your calendar you have to start small. Choose a room or a corner of a room to start in and find a system ie 1)Throw away un-needed items 2) Sort what is needed and can be given away 3) Organize space 4) Maintain clutter free area. Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing http://www.amazon.com/The-Life-Changing-Magic-Tidying-Decluttering/dp/1607747308 is one i HIGHLY recommend.

Organizing a schedule is similar- 1) get a good planner or calendar. If you are a entrepreneur I highly recommend the Freedom Planner http://www.yourfreedomplanner.com/ 2) Then figure out what needs to be scheduled and when. Make some non-negotiables. For me my hour of personal growth in the morning, social time, business time, and family time are MUSTS. Everything else must work around those times. If you own a business treat it like a business and NOT a hobby and it will pay you like a business.
